What's In Our Templates

Web templates come in all different sizes and flavors, so each one is rather unique.  Below are some items that are often included in our templates. Remember that your template may or may not have all of the items listed.

Modified Folder List

Your web folder contains several files and one or more folders. The files and folders shown in the modified folder list above are typical of what you will see when looking at your web in the folder list.

Root Web: You have probably heard the term "root web" used. This is your main web folder where the home page (index.htm or default.htm) resides. Typically, all of the web pages will reside inside of the root web folder.

CSS File: Your template will have a file that ends with a .css extension. This file is the style sheet and contains the formatting instructions for colors, links, headings, and much more that are used within every page. Along with this images used within the template, this file is what determines your pages' appearance when viewed through your browser.

DWT Pages: If your template was made for FrontPage 2003 and/or Expression Web, it will have one or more files that end in .dwt. This stands for Dynamic Web Template. There will be a dwt file for each page layout (1-column, 2-column, etc.) included in your web package. [Note: If are are familiar with FrontPage's include pages, it may help to think of a DWT as one large include page that contains several page elements, like the navigation links, the footer content, etc., in one convenient place.] When you edit a dwt page, the changes are applied to every page that is attached (or uses) that dwt page.

Include Pages: If your template was made for FrontPage 2002 or 2003, content that is common to all pages will be set within "include pages". These pages may be contained within a folder titled includes or they may be in your root web and begin with the word include. [Example: include_copyright.htm] When you edit an include page, the changes are applied to every page that uses that included content.

Images Folder: This folder contains all of the images that are used on the various pages of your web. We often add other folders within this folder to make it easier to find what you are looking for.

Calendar: Our calendar uses a simple javascript. This calendar will show the current month with the current day highlighted. It does not have the capabilities of linking dates to specific events. Note that you will not see the calendar while in Design view, but the calendar is visible when you preview your web and when it is published.

Special Note: Inside of the images folder, you will see our logo image along with two images that state the template is valid for both its coding and css. You can remove and delete these images on your site. If you retain the validation buttons, be absolutely sure that your edited pages pass validation tests. If your pages do not pass, either correct the problems or delete the images.
