Images and Security Warnings

You have probably visited a site where you received an Internet Explorer warning about whether you want to display both secure and non-secure information.

IE will throw this warning when you have both secure and non-secure items on the same "checkout" page . Secure and non-secure content, or mixed content, means that a webpage is trying to display elements using both secure (HTTPS/SSL) and non-secure (HTTP) web server connections. This often happens with online stores or financial sites that display images, banners, or scripts that are coming from a server that is not secured. The risk of displaying mixed content is that a non-secure webpage or script might be able to access information from the secure content.

If you want to add images such as that twitter icon, the Facebook image, etc., you will want to copy the image (rather than using their code that links to their server) and then upload it to the images folder of your store. You can then use go to the Page Template Manager and view the template page -- usually the header template if you want to add items to the sidebar area -- and then insert your photo and create a hyperlink to the location by using the Basic or Advanced editors.

Images within the ProStores images folder will be secure....and security is very important for all ecommerce sites. It's worth the time to do it right, rather than choosing what is easy.

There is another option where you can "hide" the entire sidebar area during the checkout process. However, this gives those pages a different look that can confuse some visitors. If you feel that not displaying the sidebar is the best option for your site, let us know and we can discuss how we can edit your checkout pages.
