Basic and Source Editors

If you need to edit your template files, this is done through the Page Template Manager. If you don't have the Basic Editor, here's how to restore it.

No Basic Editor? Restore It.

When you create a new store front, ProStores uses the "Build Your Own" theme by default. This default store does not have the Basic Editor or the Advanced Editor.

One of the issues with this default is that you only have access to the Source Editor if you want to make any changes to any of the templates available. If you are using one of our ProStores templates, you might want to delete some of our text and add your own. Unless you know about HTML coding, using the Source Editor can seem daunting.

By making a few small changes before you upload your new ProStores template files, you can ensure that you have access to the Basic Editor so you can have a visual look at the design version of your site.

Step 1:

Click on Store Design, then click on Design Settings. On the screen you will see an an area called Theme. Click the Change link on the right side of the screen.

Step 2:

On the Theme screen, you will see that the Build Your Own is showing in the Theme Category box.

Click on the arrow in the Theme Category box and select a different option. Choose a different theme and then click the Save and Publish button at the bottom of the page.

Step 3:

Now go to Store Design, then click on Page Template Manager. Click on the Header Template to view it. You should now see the option to view in the Source Editor and also the Basic Editor. (The Advanced Editor may also be available depending on the template you choose to view.)

Step 4:

Now you can upload your new template (.tpl) files that came with your new ProStores template package. Upload your logo file and image.zip file and you are ready to begin working on your new store front.

New for ProStores V10

We are working on some new tutorials that explain this process in detail in Version 10 and should have them uploaded soon.
