Dreamweaver Tutorials

Each of our Dreamweaver templates contains helpful information within each web page. Your template will include a Getting Started page or a "template instructions" page you can print for easy reference. We offer live previews and immediate product downloads. We created this Help Center for those who want or need more in-depth information. If you feel you need more help, we don't require you to fill out a support ticket or check a forum for answers. Just email us your questions and we'll get back to you with the answers you need, usually within 24 hours. We support each template sold for a full twelve months.

Downloading Your Template

Once you have completed the purchase process through our shopping cart system, you will be directed to a page that has a link to the template file. There are instructions on the page to help you proceed.

  • You should download your template soon after your purchase is approved. The link only remains active for a short time.
  • Click on the download link to start the process.
  • When the File Download box appears, click the Save button. This will open a Save As dialog window.
  • Save the file to a convenient location on your computer. We recommend saving the file to your desktop. You can always move the file to another location later.
  • Once your file has been downloaded, continue with the instructions on the screen. You will be directed to a "Thank You" page that also gives you this information plus some further details.

Unzipping the Download File

  • Double-click on the file you saved to your desktop.
  • If WinZip is installed, the dialog box will appear. In this interface, you will see the total number of files.
  • Click on the Extract icon.
  • The Extract dialog window will open.
  • Make sure there is a check in the box next to "Use folder names".
  • Click on Desktop.
  • Click on the Extract button.
  • When your files are unzipped, the WinZip interface window will close.
  • On your desktop you will now see a new folder.
  • Right-click on the web folder and select Copy from the menu.
  • You can now move your web folder to a more permanent location on your hard drive.

What's Inside:

Root Web:

You have probably heard the term "root web" used. This is your main web folder where the home page (index.htm or default.htm) resides. Typically, all of the web pages will reside inside of the root web folder.

CSS File:

Your template will have a file that ends with a .css extension. This file is the style sheet and contains the formatting instructions for colors, links, headings, and much more that are used within every page. Along with this images used within the template, this file is what determines your pages' appearance when viewed through your browser.

Template Folder:

Our Dreamweaver templates will have one or more files that end in .dwt. This stands for Dynamic Web Template. There will be a dwt file for each page layout (1-column, 2-column, etc.) included in your web package. When you edit a dwt page, the changes are applied to every page that is attached (or uses) that dwt page.

Library Items:

Library Items are bits of code that is added to or included into other pages. We sometimes use Library Items to hold various navigation links. When you edit a Library Item, the changes are applied to every page that uses that included content.

These pages will be contained within a folder titled Library

Resources Folder:

Any source files such as .psd files will be located in the Resources Folder. This folder will also contain any special "read me" instructions, along with our License Agreement.

Images Folder:

This folder contains all of the images that are used on the various pages of your web. We often add other folders within this folder to make it easier to find what you are looking for.

  • Main template images are found inside of the images folder.
  • Shopping cart buttons and special icon-type buttons are located within the buttons folder.
  • If your template contains a product catalog, our sample product images are placed within the products folder.
  • If your template contains a photo gallery, our sample images are placed within the photogallery folder.
  • If your template comes with various layered source files (layered .psd files), you will find these within the sourcefiles or Resources folder.
Calendar & Other Scripts:

Our calendar uses a simple JavaScript. This calendar will show the current month with the current day highlighted. It does not have the capabilities of linking dates to specific events.

Your template may contain a JavaScript to display a slideshow. We use several different types and information will be detailed in your web package.

Your template may contain a JavaScript Lightbox. Again, specific details on editing the images will be explained in your web package.

Note that JavaScripts are not visible in Design view, but will be seen when you preview your web and when it is published.
